Kasimir Malevich
1879
―1935
Kasimir Malevich (born Kazimierz Malewicz in Kyiv) was founder of the Suprematistic Movement (suprematism), an important precursor to constructivism. Teacher at the Kyiv Art Institute, and together with Marc Chagall in Vitebisk.
Malevich loved extremes, his black square painting was displayed in a corner position usually reserved for religious iconography, and also declared the end of representational painting. He was conscious of it’s fame and ordered his family to display the painting with his body before his burial and during the funeral procession itself.
