Guillaume Apollinaire

1880

1918

Guillaume Apollinaire was a poet and writer and publisher of his calligrammes or visual poems (also called concrete poetry). He is associated with both cubism (writing about it as an art critic) and surrealism, but for our purposes we shall remember him as a member of the Dada movement for his excellent typographic poems. Apollinaire was severely wounded in the first world war and died (at a very young age) shortly after after catching the Spanish Flu.
