Lyubov Popova

Lyubov (or Liubov) Popova was a cubo-futurist and a suprematist painter, and also taught color contruction at the famous Vkhutemas School in Moscow. Her works include stage sets and fashion designs. Her family was both wealthy and interested in art, and she was encouraged to develop her skills as a painter. She traveled to France and Italy and was influenced by the Cubist painters and Futurist movement. She joined the Suprematist movement started by Kasimir Malevitch, and participated in the movement’s exhibitions. She was close friends with Vavara Stepanova and Alexander Rodchenko (many portraits of her were taken by Rodchenko), making her a constructivist as well. She died suddenly in 1924 due to scarlet fever.
