Norman Rockwell

1894

1978

Norman Rockwell was a prominent American illustrator and commercial artist. When he was just 22 years old, he sold one of his illustrations to the Saturday Evening Post and went on to create an impressive total of 322 covers for the magazine.

Rockwell is celebrated for his vivid portrayals of idyllic American life, evident in nearly all of his Post covers. In the 1960s, during his later years as an illustrator, Rockwell shifted his focus to Look magazine. This transition marked a change in his style, as he began to address broader social issues, including poverty, the ongoing struggle for civil rights, and the exploration of space.

In recognition of his profound impact on American society, Rockwell was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977. To this day, he is regarded by many as one of the greatest artists in American history.
