This hand lettered and illustrated book cover was made for Elizabeth Colwell’s nephew(?) and is in the style of Will Bradley’s chap books (the reference to his book can also be found in Bradley’s work). The work is clearly inspired by Arts and Crafts, but also has the ear-markings of early American Modernism. Note the charming list of chores that young Raymond was expected to perform. A reproduction of this work can be found in the 1994 (vol. 10, no. 2) edition of Design Issues.
