1950

The magazine Flair (1950) was designed as an aesthetic mass-produced lifestyle magazine. The editor Fleur Cowles brought together various photographers, artists, and designers such as Salvador Dali, Jean Cocteau, Saul Steinberg, Friedrich von Berzeviczy Pallavicini, Sylvia Braverman, Arnold Gingrich, Daria Guarnati, Truman Capote, and Tennessee Williams. The magazine stood out due to various finishing techniques: cut-outs in the magazine cover, changes in paper thickness, different printing and binding techniques, detachable booklets, and pasted fabric inserts. Some of the advertisements for Flair were designed by Paul Rand. (DG)
