Proun 8, very architectural in nature, especially when viewed as intended turned 45 degrees. Oil and gouache (and metal foil) on canvas, a much smaller (24.5 x 24.5) study in water color and gouache on top of pencil was done previously. Lissitzky’s prouns (pronouced pro-un) show his architectural training influence from Malevich, and are an acronym (in Russian) for project for the affirmation of the new, an in that sense also political in intention.
