Songs of Tristram & Ysvelt
Designers
Year
1907
This frontispiece and title page for this book of songs, is clearly inspired in content and visual appearance by the Arts and Crafts movement, and can be grouped in this movement. Colwell’s more illustrative work was often very ornate, but she could also produce very simple clean designs, that one can see if one only looks at the typography on the title page. This is a reproduction printed in The Printing Art in 1908, indicating that Colwell was recognized by her peers as a talent.
